Most Challenging Montenegro Adventure

ITINERARY

DAY 1

Canyoning Nevidio

The Nevidio Canyon is a place where millions of years ago the mountains of Durmitor and Vojnik crashed into each other. The River Komarnica had cut this canyon deep in the severe rock a long time ago. This is the last conquered canyon in Europe. It is located 50 km from Žabljak in the direction towards Šavnik and Niksic. The name Nevidio (Never Seen) or Nevidbog (Never Seen by God) speaks for itself - it is hardly accessible. The beauty of the Canyon is stunning, and this phenomenon will leave you breathless with its steep cliffs and icy cold water. The canyon is 2,700 meters long, and in some places, its width goes down to only 0.5m.

The perfect time for this adventure usually goes from the end of June till late September, depending on the weather.  Our experienced guides always conduct a preliminary expedition before starting the Canyoning season. They will check your physical readiness and conduct safety briefing, and ensure your safety throughout the trip.

09:30 am Let’s start your rafting trip with pick up directly from your hotel in Zabljak and safe driving through attractive landscape right to the Village Poscenje, one of the most beautiful villages in Montenegro. This Village has two wonderful glacier lakes and amazing periodical waterfall Skakvica which pours the water of the Grabovica from a 70-meter high cliff. Your guides will fit your canyoning equipment (wet suit and socks, a lifejacket and helmet) to ensure safety, and give you detailed safety instructions.

The first encounter with Nevidio will take your breath away with its indescribable beauty, fabulous and extraordinary. It starts at the very end of the valley justifying its name, as the river Komarnica suddenly disappears in the strangely carved entrance and becomes invisible to the human eye.  The biggest part of the canyon is in eternal shadow. Sunlight cannot reach the bottom because of the steep cliffs. On these sheer and hardly reachable rocks, the conditions for vegetation are harsh, so one can say that the canyon is a pearl of the cruel nature or heaven and hell at the same time.

Your conquering of the Nevidio Canyon will approximately last three hours, but you will be remembering it all your life.

15:00 Your first activity day ends with delicious lunch in the Ethno restaurant Jatak in Poscenje and after that, we will take you back to your place in Zabljak. (There are numerous hotels, camps, apartments… for rent in Zabljak).

Participants for the Canyoning Nevidio must be: over 18 years old (or accompanied by parents), swimmers, not suffering from any kind of heart or lung disease.

Day 2

Rafting through the entire navigable part of the Tara River

At the foot of Durmitor massif, one of the main natural and ecological attractions is the Tara River, a world known as the "Tear of Europe." Given the depth and length of its canyon, as well as all its other features, the river Tara takes the first place in Europe and the second in the world, right after Colorado in the United States.

10.00 am – Your rafting trip starts with pick up directly from your hotel in Zabljak and safe driving through the attractive and challenging landscape to Sljivansko, the starting point of rafting tour> We'll take a break for photo shooting and the zip line across the river, right next to the Great Bridge on Djurdjevica Tara.

10.40 am – Depending on the break, we will arrive at the Šljivansko village and get ready for rafting. You will be fitted with a wet suit and booties, a lifejacket and helmet.  Your guides will fit your river equipment to ensure safety, give you a very detailed safety talk and show you how to sit in the raft and how to paddle.

11.00 am – This trip starts off with a slower pace great for warming up and practicing your paddling skills, through the most attractive areas of the Tara River Canyon. We will take a break next to the most plentiful springs in Europe (5000 liters per second) for photographing and sightseeing.

12.00h - Rafting to Radovan Luka lasts 5-6 hours (depending on the water level) with breaks for lunch, photographing, and swimming. On this part of rafting we will see the largest water spring in Europe called Ljutica), and the monumental bridge - Djurdjevica Tara (height 165m), the Monastery of Archangel Michael (from IVX century), than Adzijin Buk, Zugica Luka, Musovica springs, Lazin stone (at this point Tara is only 4 meters wide and around 16m deep).

17.00 - We make a break at our wilderness place, in the middle of the navigable part of the Tara River where your personal gear awaits you; there is time to enjoy perfect peace of the remote canyon over dinner and campfire in the Eco Lodge Radovan Luka.  Accommodation is organized in the double bedrooms with bathrooms. Bed linen and towels are at your disposal.

DAY 3

Continuation of rafting

8:00 am – After great breakfast, we continue our run through the most beautiful part of the Durmitor National Park with more big rapids right to Scepan Polje.

We will visit the authentic village Tepca that is famous for the old wire bridge and attractive rapids, passing the place where the canyon is the deepest, and Baijlovića Sige (beautiful waterfall which is the most photographed place in the Tara Canyon), and picturesque rapids / Gornji and Donji Nozdruc and River Susica (originates at the top of Durmitor), and large attractive rapids Prodrtu Usov. It is possible to organize a break in the Camp Brstanovica close to the same-named rapid that is the longest in the Tara River, and then rapids of Pine trees, Ward, Cells, Vjernovića buk ...

Depending on the water level, rafting lasts approximately 5-6 hours with breaks for lunch, photographing, sunbathing, and swimming.

15.00 pm – Your rafting trip ends at Šćepan Polje with lunch in the Rafting Centre Waterfall Restaurant. Our cooks will prepare the best of very tasty traditional and modern Montenegrin specialties for you (appetizer-home made brandy, raft’s soup, grilled trout, lamb or veal meat, and potatoes made under the iron pot on an open fire, or vegetarian dish and salad, and dessert).

At our Rafting Centre, you can enjoy free time walking, sunbathing, or playing some social games until we serve a delicious healthy dinner which will satisfy even the heartiest appetite. We can also organize fishing in our Centre area, Tara or Piva Rivers, as well as in the Piva Lake. According to the opinion of many fishermen, all areas are very rich with wild trout, grayling, and sprout. Just contact our Camp Manager on time to reserve an appropriate trip and fishing equipment for you.

Spend the rest of the evening catching up fellow rafters and meeting new people. Your day in the sun winds down with freshly grilled local specialties (cevapi, pljeskavica, raznjici, musaka) or different kinds of pasta with veggies or mushrooms, fresh cheeses, rice, and chips, while fresh salads and pastries complement the menu. Lounge around your campfire before retiring for the night.

DAY 4

Hiking to Bobotov Kuk - the highest peak in Montenegro

The fourth day of your adventure begins at 08.00 am with early but strong breakfast in the Waterfall Restaurant and get prepared for this amazing but quite demanding adventure.

09.00 Jump into terrain vehicles and enjoy driving through the Piva Canyon, and along the Piva Lake. This scenic drive continues over Piva Mountain, through the village Pisce (1,390 m), and Trsa (1.450 m).  We will enter in the Durmitor National Park through Todorov Do, which is located under Prutaš (2,300 m), the most beautiful peak of Durmitor, followed by the peak of Stozina and Sedlo (1,907 m) where our hiking tour begins.

10.30h – Our climbing goes over Surutka - Zeleni Vir - Velika Previja all the way to Bobotovov Kuk. One part of the path goes through the forest, and we will make several short breaks on the most beautiful viewpoints. We'll enjoy our lunch package consisting of a sandwich of your choice, yogurt, fruit, muesli bar, and water.

The total required time for this tour is about 6 hours. The altitude difference is 755 m. This is quite a challenging tour and participants must be in good mental and physical condition.

FAQ for rafting

WHAT SETS WATERFALL RAFTING CENTER APART FROM THE REST?

Everything! This might sound like a bold statement, but we encourage you to do some research on other outfitters in the Tara River Canyon and throughout the region. As the leaders in white water hospitality, we are dedicated to making sure that each of our guests feels welcome, wanted, and comfortable throughout their entire experience with us. From our highly trained professional staff to our top-of-the-line equipment for your safety and comfort, and everything in-between we can show you the rapids of the mighty Tara River like no one else!

2. WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE TRIP PRICE?

We provide you with our knowledgeable and talented river guides, commercial-grade rafts, life jackets, helmets, paddles, wet suits and booties, a free shuttle to and from the river, free parking (buses are welcome), restaurant, terrace, gift store, changing rooms and hot showers.

Excellent service during our buffet breakfast and full meal lunch are also included in the price.

3. ARE RESERVATIONS REQUIRED?

Yes. Reservations are required and a 20% advance payment must be received prior to the date of your adventure. Same-day reservations are accepted based on availability, so please book online or send us an email.

4. WILL I GET WET?

Yes – but you will be in a wetsuit and booties. White water rafting is a great activity for rainy days as you are going to be wet anyway!

5. WHAT SHOES SHOULD I WEAR?

We provide complete and professional rafting equipment including wetsuit and booties, life jackets and helmets, as well as anoraks for rainy occasions. So you can wear your normal shoes and clothes to get to the rafting base.

6. WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

You should bring a swimming suit and suntan lotion, sunglasses and warm clothes for chilly evenings next to the campfire if staying overnight in the Waterfall Center.

7. DO I HAVE TO BE ABLE TO SWIM?

In the springtime when the river is high, it is recommended that you be able to swim. In the summertime when the river is lower you do not have to be a swimmer at all. Just make sure to let your guide know of your comfort level and swimming ability. Anyway, safety west is obligatory and you should follow instructions provided by the river guide. No one falls down from the boat, unless by purpose.

8. DO PEOPLE FALL OUT OF THE BOAT?

We take your safety seriously. Every trip starts with a full safety briefing and paddle instruction. Our boats are equipped with perimeter and center lines to give you ample places to hang on and stay in the boat. There is some risk in whitewater rafting however, but it is rare that people fall out of the boat. In the case that they do – they are retrieved quickly using the drills that are taught in the safety briefing. In the spring with the higher water levels there is a greater potential for things to happen. High water is definitely not for everyone.

9. WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS BAD?

Our trips leave as scheduled, rain, or shine. In the event of extreme weather conditions, we do reserve the right to alter your trip.

10. WHEN RAFTING SEASON STARTS?

Our season starts 1st of May and runs till October 1st. May and early June are defined by higher water flows and attract more adventuresome groups. In July and August water levels typically drop and conditions become perfect for younger families and multi-generational groups.

11. WHAT ARE THE AGE LIMITS FOR RAFTING?

We encourage everyone, young and old, fit or a couch potato, to experience the fun of white water rafting and hope that you will learn to love this sport as much as we do. From July – October, we hosted children 4 years old but also people in the late seventies.

12. WHAT IF I HAVE NEVER BEEN ON RAFTING BEFORE?

Most of our guests have never been on rafting before. All our trips are adapted for newcomers.

13. IS RAFTING SAFE ADVENTURE?

We are proud to be one of the pioneers of Rafting on the Tara River. Since 2000, our skippers have rafted with over 50 000 guests with not a single accident. Rafting is thrilling, exciting, wet, wild, and unbelievably fun. However, as with all adventure sports, there is inherent...

14. ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL CHARGES?

All Taxes and River Access fees are included in our base price. Rafting guides and waiters gratuities are not included in the trip price and are greatly appreciated.

15. DO YOU OFFER GROUP DISCOUNTS?

Of course, when it comes to rafting the Tara River, the more people you bring the more fun you will have! We offer some of the best group discounts on the river! Please check out our Groups page for more information.

16. CAN I BRING MY CAMERA?

We recommend that cameras are left behind at the Waterfall center as we cannot guarantee their safety against damage even if waterproof. However, if you would still like to take a camera on the rafting trip, we have waterproof safety bags on every raft where you can store it during the rapids and use it during breaks.

17. CAN I WEAR SUNGLASSES/ PRESCRIPTION GLASSES OR CONTACT LENSES?

Yes, you can, however, we do recommend a sports strap or tie for glasses. Once again remember we can’t guarantee the safety of your glasses. So if you can do it without it then do.

18. HOW MANY PEOPLE GO IN A RAFT?

All of our rafts can comfortably accommodate 8 guests + river guide.

19. ARE GRATUITIES ACCEPTABLE?

Absolutely. If your guides contributed to your enjoyment of the day please give them a tip!  Gratuities for guides are acceptable and greatly appreciated. And we’d love to hear about it as well. FAQ for the Canyoning

1. HOW LONG DOES PASSING THROUGH THE CANYON TAKE?

The duration of passing through the canyon depends on the group size and physical condition of participants. For the average group of 8 people passing takes about 3 hours.

2. WHAT IS THE HEIGHT OF JUMPS?
Jumps are 2 - 9 m high.

3. IS IT NECESSARY TO JUMP ON EACH OF THE JUMPS?

Most of the jumps can be avoided as your guides can assist you with a rope.

4. WHAT ARE THE AGE LIMITS FOR PRACTICING CANYONING?

The lower limit is about 11 years, depending on the constitution of the child. The upper limit does not essentially exist, as long as someone feels capable of passing through Nevidio.

 5. WHERE CAN WE LEAVE PERSONAL THINGS WHILE THE CANYONING LASTS

You should leave your personal things in your guide’s car that we’ll remain parked near the canyon entrance. Although it is not recommended, it is possible to pack some of the personal things in waterproof bags.

 6. WHAT’S THE NECESSARY EQUIPMENT THAT WE SHOULD BRING WITH US?\

You need to bring your swimming suit as we provide full equipment. We recommend bringing a towel as you might need it when returning from the canyon.

 7. IS IT POSSIBLE TO COME BACK FROM SOME PLACES IN THE CANYON?

Return is possible only before the first jump, which is about 200-300 meters from the entrance of the canyon.

 8. HOW MANY GUIDES ARE THERE WITH THE GROUP?
It depends on the size of the group. On every 5-6 persons goes one guide. So, if group counts, for example, 15 people, there will be 3 guides.

 9. CAN WE GO INDIVIDUALLY INTO THE CANYON?

Individual passing is not recommended because it could be extremely dangerous for people who do not know the canyon. In these cases, the tour ends with rescue service coming to help people go out of the canyon.
